A Payroll Professional in Japan holds a critical, complex, and high regulated role and responsible for ensuring employees are paid accurate and on time, while meticulously complying with Japan’s intricate labor laws, tax regulations. · Cooperate with cross-country team with no border and work as one team to achieve business goal.
· Cooperate with related HR functions such as Benefit, Compensation etc. to complete irregular cases, solve the issues or work on special projects.
· Manage and guide contractors as business as usual.
· Interlock with tax bureau, city offices, legal affair bureau etc. to ensure the required regulations are acted accurately and timely.
· Respond to employee queries about payslip, resident tax, income tax, etc. and find solution for complex cases.
· Managing Year-End Tax Adjustment (Nenmatsu Chosei) for employees, including collecting declarations, calculating final tax, and issuing Gensen Choshu Hyo (withholding tax statements).
· Preparing and filing various tax forms (e.g., resident tax notifications).
· Collecting and validating all payroll input data (e.g., working hours, leave, new hires, terminations, salary changes, bonuses, allowances, deductions).
· Calculating gross pay, statutory deductions (income tax, resident tax, social insurance, labor insurance), and net pay.
· Processing special payments (e.g., severance, special bonuses).
· Generating payroll registers and reports.
· Ensuring timely and accurate salary disbursement to employees.
· Preparing payslips (both physical and electronic).
· Japanese and English language skills in both writing and speaking, able to communicate in both languages clearly and accurately.
· In-depth knowledge and experience on Japan Payroll, especially understands the labor laws and tax regulations.
· Strong communication skills to communicate effectively with employees, internal team, HR functions and other stakeholders.
· Meticulous attention to details and high level of integrity & confidentiality, strong numerical accuracy, proficiency in payroll software, ability to handle confidential information, and a solid understanding of Japanese payroll calculations. Preferably experienced professional in handling end to end year-end process in SAP.
