The Virtual Desktop Infrastructure Engineer (Infrastructure Specialist) is responsible for the ongoing support and maintenance of the existing Citrix-based Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) and Windows Remote Desktop Services (RDS) environments hosted on Microsoft Azure. This role also includes responsibilities related to managing and updating Standard Operating Environment (SOE) images in accordance with approved configurations. The engineer will operate within defined boundaries and support service delivery in a secure, enterprise-scale environment.
- Provide day-to-day operational support for existing Citrix VDI server farms, virtual desktops, and RDS deployments.
- Monitor system health and availability, address performance issues, and resolve infrastructure-related incidents within agreed service levels.
- Maintain and update Standard Operating Environment (SOE) images, including minor version upgrades and patching, in line with existing approved configurations.
- Participate in scheduled Disaster Recovery drills and ensure readiness of VDI infrastructure.
- Ensure compliance with security policies, GPOs, and configuration standards.
- Maintain documentation and runbooks for VDI, RDS, and SOE-related processes.
- Escalate application-level or end-user profile issues to appropriate resolver teams.
- Must have an active AGSVA Baseline Clearance, preferred to have AGSVA NV1 Clearance or be eligible to obtain one.
- Must be an Australian Citizen
- Must work onsite 5 days per week and prefer to be Ballarat based
- 2+ years of experience in supporting Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops in enterprise or government environments.
- Strong experience with Microsoft Remote Desktop Services (RDS) and session host infrastructure.
- Proficiency in managing and maintaining SOE images for Windows-based virtual desktops.
- Familiarity with Citrix Studio, Director, StoreFront, and related components.
- Solid understanding of patching, user access control, and image lifecycle management.
- Experience working in highly secure, structured environments with formal change and incident processes..
- Citrix Certified Associate – Virtualization (CCA-V) or equivalent.
- Microsoft certifications related to Azure Virtual Desktop, Windows Server, or End User Computing.
- Prior experience supporting virtual desktop solutions in government or compliance-heavy environments.
- Familiarity with ITIL-based support practices.
