The IBM Infrastructure communications team, part of IBM Corporate Affairs, is looking for an External Relations Professional to join our team, focusing on external communications. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing communications strategies and executing campaigns related to our IBM Cloud and IBM Z platforms. You will be responsible for driving conversations with press and other external stakeholders to build brand awareness about IBM as an industry leader in hybrid cloud and AI.
The right candidate would have the experience, enthusiasm for media relationships, and insight to help our team amplify the innovative work IBM Infrastructure is doing. This may involve crafting strategies to cultivate mutually beneficial relationships with media and influencers, securing media engagements and coverage, developing content, executing news announcements, and planning press events and briefings.
Our team comes from journalism, startup PR, public affairs, marketing, and influencer relations backgrounds. We move quickly and with purpose and think creatively to tell the IBM Infrastructure story.
The successful candidate would be able to translate complex terms into everyday language, be comfortable with navigating ambiguity, and see around corners to anticipate what internal and external stakeholders may need next. The right candidate must be a self-starter, comfortable with working independently as well as with cross-company and multidisciplinary teams in a fast-paced environment.

- Develop written content, including media plans, messaging, FAQs, blogs, pitches, press releases, and other materials to support the communications goals and objectives of IBM Infrastructure and the broader Corporate Affairs function.
- Maintain an innate curiosity into the technical milestones of IBM and turn these achievements into compelling external stories that showcase how new product offerings hold the potential to transform industries.
- Build trusted and collaborative relationships with IBM Infrastructure spokespeople to both serve as an advisor and develop new angles to proactively pitch press.
- Partner with Corporate Affairs colleagues, geographic communications teams, internal communications experts, social media colleagues, and others across the company to maintain cohesive messaging in support of IBM’s global strategy.
- Collaborate with marketing, content, and social teams to drive communications around integrated campaigns.
- Monitor, measure, and report periodically on media coverage resulting from campaigns and outreach.
- Identify media movements and trends across key subject areas for IBM Infrastructure for potential relationship building and proactive outreach opportunities.
We offer a dynamic blend of personal flexibility and a thriving in-office environment. This role requires three days of in-office presence per week, with two days for remote work.
- 5+ years in technology media relations, marketing communications, or similar experience in-house or in an agency setting.
- Aptitude for planning and executing integrated and scalable media campaigns.
- Hands-on experience building and driving stories with reporters and producers.
- Experience in presenting to and offering strategic guidance to business leaders and executives.
- Ability to synthesize complex technologies, products, and market challenges.
- Expanded and timely knowledge of emerging and enterprise technologies and key industry players.
- Experience in building out concepts and content with supporting creative, social and internal communications teams.
