We are seeking a skilled Senior Software Engineer to join our Red Hat JBoss Web Server Software Engineering team. As part of our team, you will be responsible for providing technical leadership for the Red Hat JBoss Web Server (JWS) and Red Hat JBoss Core Services (JBCS) products, which are Red Hat’s builds of Apache Tomcat and the Apache HTTP Server (httpd) respectively. You will work with a variety of technologies and programming languages to maintain and develop high-quality software products.

Sua Função e suas Responsabilidades

As a key member of our dynamic team, you will play a vital role in crafting exceptional software experiences. Your responsibilities will include providing technical leadership and C language expertise for the product portfolio, with a primary focus on the Apache HTTP Server (httpd) and its ecosystem of dependencies, particularly on the Windows platform. You will leverage this expertise to maintain the stability of Windows-based components, fine-tune and sustain existing code for optimal performance, and develop solutions for complex security concerns or functional updates. Ensuring superior quality will be a key aspect of your role. This will be achieved by partnering with Software Quality Engineers (QE) to develop robust testing procedures and effective debugging strategies.

Collaboration is at the heart of what we do. You will engage deeply with our upstream communities, Product Security team, Customer Support, and our Software Quality Engineers (QE) to ensure the delivery of exceptional products. You will also be responsible for significant mentorship and guidance to other team members and junior engineers.

Experiência Profissional e Técnica Requerida
  • Software Development Expertise: A strong background in software development, demonstrating expert knowledge of the C language and its supporting toolsets.
  • Windows Platform Proficiency: Extensive knowledge of the Windows development platform, including experience managing Windows VM infrastructure and actively tracking forthcoming platform updates to ensure product preparedness. Proficiency with Java Native Interface (JNI) and Windows services, particularly Apache Commons Daemon (procrun), would be highly advantageous.
  • Web Server and Cloud Technology Proficiency: Deep and broad knowledge of web servers, specifically the Apache HTTP Server.
  • Technical Leadership and Mentorship: Demonstrated experience leading technical initiatives or teams is required. You must have proven experience mentoring and technically leading other engineers.
  • Software Packaging Expertise: This role also requires extensive experience with software packaging, particularly expertise with packaging software in RPMs and zip files.
  • Collaborative Team Player: A strong passion for Open Source and leadership in open collaboration best practices. You must have the ability to work seamlessly as part of a highly distributed, remote team.

  • Open Source Contribution Participation: Proficiency and involvement within the Apache Software Foundation (ASF) ecosystem are critical components of this position. Prior experience is highly desirable, and Committer status within the Apache HTTP Server project is preferred.

  • In-Depth Component Knowledge: Familiarity with key Apache HTTP Server dependencies, specifically on the Windows platform, including openssl, apr, curl, expat, etc and knowledge of the Apache Tomcat connectors, mod_jk and the ISAPI redirector for Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) web server.

  • Scripting Proficiency: In addition to C expertise, extensive experience with scripting languages such as Bash, Python, or Groovy are a plus.
