At IBM CIO, we are building a robust, multi-tenant platform on OpenShift that will empower internal developers and application teams across the organization. As part of this effort, we are seeking an experienced software engineer to join our platform engineering team. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in building scalable, multi-tenant PaaS solutions using modern technologies such as Golang, React.js, and OpenShift-based platforms.
You will be responsible for providing technical leadership, designing and developing the microservices that power the platform as well as the user experience thru unified developer portal, ensuring it’s capable of supporting a diverse range of users and applications. In addition to building the core platform and delivering the experience, you'll collaborate closely with SRE teams and other infrastructure specialists to deliver a seamless multi-tenant experience.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead the design and development of scalable, multi-tenant microservices that power the platform.
Architect and implement complex platform solutions, ensuring high performance, security, and maintainability.
Work closely with peer teams, e.g. SRE, to ensure the platform is highly available and optimized for cost and resource usage.
Mentor and guide other engineers, fostering a collaborative environment and promoting best practices.
Collaborate directly with internal users (developers, technical owners, security specialists) to understand their needs and deliver tailored solutions.
Help define and maintain platform standards, including code quality, testing, and security.
Contribute to the development of the developer portal, integrating features that improve the overall developer experience.
Drive platform improvements based on feedback from users and performance metrics.
Troubleshoot and resolve complex issues related to platform performance, security, and scalability.
Participate in on-call rotations to provide support for production issues when needed.
Stay up-to-date with industry trends, new technologies, and best practices to continually evolve the platform.
- 8+ years of experience in software development, with a focus on platform engineering and microservice architectures.
- Expertise in Golang and JavaScript (React.js) for developing full-stack solutions.
- Extensive experience with Kubernetes, OpenShift, or other container orchestration platforms.
- Deep understanding of multi-tenant system design and architecture.
- Strong background in cloud-native development, CI/CD pipelines, and automation.
- Expertise in designing and implementing APIs and microservices.
- Solid understanding of security best practices for platform development and management.
- Deep understanding of at least one public cloud provider (AWS, GCP, or Azure).
- Proven experience leading or mentoring engineering teams, with a strong focus on collaboration and knowledge sharing.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to tackle complex technical challenges.
- Familiarity with service mesh technologies (e.g., Istio, Linkerd) and distributed tracing.
- Strong collaboration skills and experience working cross-functionally with teams like Infrastructure, SRE, security, and application owners.
- Experience with extending Kubernetes/OpenShift, including developing custom Operators or other Kubernetes-native solutions.
- Experience working in an enterprise environment with multiple development teams.
- Understanding of IBM cloud infrastructure.
- Prior experience building or contributing to a developer portal.
- Familiarity with monitoring, logging, and observability tools.
