We are seeking a AWS Cloud Full Stack Developer to join IBM’s delivery teams supporting public‑sector and defence programmes. In this role, you will contribute to the design, development, and long‑term maintenance of secure, cloud‑based applications that underpin critical government and defence operations. You will work across both frontend and backend technologies while leveraging AWS services to build scalable, resilient, and high‑performing solutions.
As part of IBM’s multidisciplinary Agile teams, you will collaborate closely with engineers, designers, architects, and client stakeholders to deliver applications that meet strict standards for reliability, security, and compliance. This position offers the opportunity to work on complex, high‑assurance systems while shaping modern cloud‑native solutions used across UK public‑sector environments.
Responsibilities
• Build and maintain full‑stack applications deployed on AWS that meet the performance, reliability, and security requirements of government and defence environments.
• Design and develop APIs and microservices using technologies such as Node.js, Python, or Java, ensuring strong modularity, maintainability, and scalability.
• Create responsive, accessible, and user‑centred front‑end interfaces with frameworks such as React.js, Angular, or Vue.js.
• Use AWS services—including Lambda, API Gateway, S3, DynamoDB, and RDS—to deliver robust, cloud‑native application features.
• Apply secure engineering practices, optimise performance, and ensure applications scale effectively under varying workloads.
• Contribute to CI/CD pipeline development and automate deployments using AWS CodePipeline or equivalent tooling.
• Collaborate closely with product managers, designers, architects, and fellow developers within an Agile delivery model.
• Write clean, maintainable code that aligns with IBM’s engineering standards, and participate in peer code reviews and technical documentation.
• Proven experience in full‑stack development, with a strong focus on building and maintaining cloud‑based applications.
• Strong proficiency in JavaScript/TypeScript and modern front‑end frameworks such as React.js, Angular, or Vue.js, with the ability to create responsive and performant user interfaces.
• Practical, hands‑on experience developing backend services using Node.js, Python, or Java, including building APIs and integrating with cloud services.
• Working knowledge of key AWS services such as Lambda, API Gateway, DynamoDB, RDS, and IAM, and an understanding of how to use them effectively within cloud‑native applications.
• Experience working with both relational databases (such as PostgreSQL or MySQL) and NoSQL databases (such as DynamoDB or MongoDB), including data modelling and query optimisation.
• Solid understanding of unit testing, integration testing, and debugging practices to ensure code quality and reliability.
• Familiarity with Git and modern version‑control workflows, along with experience using deployment automation tools and practices.
As an equal opportunities employer, we welcome applications from individuals of all backgrounds. However, to be eligible for this role, you must have the legal right to work in the UK. Visa sponsorship is not available now or in the future.
