About IBM’s Automation/HashiCorp Design Team 

We build the Infrastructure Cloud which allows enterprises to take a unified approach to Infrastructure Lifecycle Management (ILM): 


Infrastructure Lifecycle Management: Build / Deploy / Manage 

  • Terraform allows you to use infrastructure as code to provision and manage any infrastructure across your organization. 

  • Packer standardizes image workflows across cloud providers, allowing teams to build, govern and manage any image for any cloud. 

  • Waypoint makes infrastructure easily accessible at scale, enabling platform teams to deliver golden patterns and workflows with an internal developer platform. 

  • Nomad brings modern application scheduling to any type of software, allowing you to manage containers, binaries and VMs efficiently in the cloud, on-premises and across edge environments. 

  • Vagrant isolates dependencies and their configuration within a single disposable and consistent development environment. 

 

What’s special about the ILM Design Team? 

Our design team works on ILM products that our users and customers love. It dramatically eases the work and overhead of deploying and managing infrastructure for teams, allowing people to focus on the uniquely valuable parts of their job, rather than tedious and repetitive tasks.  

This means customers really use our software and provide lots of feedback. Gathering and understanding this feedback requires that we collaborate across multiple disciplines, including Product, Engineering, Field, Marketing. 

We design and build workflows to enable our customers to secure their applications and protect sensitive information data. We focus on enabling platform teams and their customers (typically developers) to adopt and improve strong security practices. We do this with the user at heart and our ‘beauty works better’ principle in hand. We believe the design process can and should feel satisfying for stakeholders, continually improve with insights, and regularly deliver positive outcomes for our business.

About Waypoint 

HCP Waypoint is designed to enable platform teams to define golden patterns and workflows for developers to enable management of applications at scale. Waypoint and HCP Terraform work collaboratively to let developers quickly set up their apps' infrastructure with just a button press. The goal of Waypoint is to help platform teams provide a clear and consistent developer experience for their development teams while providing a central catalog of applications, day-2+ operations, and their associated metadata. HCP Waypoint is a rapidly evolving product with lofty aspirations. 

 

About the role 

As a Senior Product Designer for Waypoint, you’ll help us maintain a focus on user experience across Waypoint and identify strategic opportunities for improvement and integration with Terraform. You’ll work with your cross-functional peers to drive awareness and prioritize initiatives to improve the user experience measurably. You’ll contribute to product strategy and vision discussions and help drive alignment through the work of the team. 

You’ll discover and specify strategic opportunities for improvement through generative research. You’ll inform product strategy, shape product design vision and direction and drive alignment across the team, and conduct evaluative research to recommend the best path forward.  

In this role, you’ll partner closely with product, engineering, and other cross-functional teams to envision innovative workflows for provisioning and deploying infrastructure over multiple public and private clouds, and improve the user experience measurably.  

You will craft usable, useful, valuable, accessible, and delightful experiences for platform engineering teams, developers, and their organizations. You’ll guide, mentor, and collaborate with product designers across the team to ensure alignment.

The compensation range and benefits for this position are based on a full-time schedule for a full calendar year. The salary will vary depending on your job-related skills, experience and location. Pay increment and frequency of pay will be in accordance with employment classification and applicable laws. For part time roles, your compensation and benefits will be adjusted to reflect your hours. Benefits may be pro-rated for those who start working during the calendar year.
