Research engineers at IBM drive the leading edge of quantum computing technologies with the industry’s most advanced hardware and software. Join an elite team of researchers and engineers building a path towards scalable fault tolerant quantum computation.
This role is for a mixed-signal ASIC designer that will contribute to the development of advanced high-performance circuits in advanced nodes for exploratory applications. We focus on circuit designs that enable the creation of differentiated solutions for a range of communication and computation challenges. Key areas of interest include analog, mixed-signal, and custom digital integrated circuit design applied to data communications applications. Experience with mixed-signal analog-on-top (AoT) or digital-on-top (DoT) integration design flows that leverage EDA-driven digital circuit design together with custom analog circuit design is a plus. Prior experience with interacting with semiconductor foundries to coordinate design releases is valuable. Experience in exploratory technologies such as non-conventional CMOS, heterogeneous integration, superconducting circuitry, or other exploratory application spaces that require critical thinking about hardware design requirements, novel packaging techniques, and end-to-end system specifications is highly desirable (but not required). Some prior experience in integrated circuit test is required: the candidate should have hands-on lab skills as they will be involved in all aspects of the project from concept to system integration and bring up.
- Master’s degree or equivalent experience
- Experience with mixed-signal design flows and associated EDA tools
- Familiarity with ASIC design and fabrication
- Hands -on lab experience to drive system integration, test, and bring-up
Responsibilities:
- Contribute to the development of advanced high-performance circuits in advanced node for exploratory applications
- Chip integration experience leveraging mixed-signal analog-on-top (AoT) or digital-on-top (DoT) flows
Participate in the bring-up and test of fabricated ASICs in a complex system
Degree: Doctorate.
- Demonstrated expertise on PLL design in deep submicron CMOS including architecture, key building blocks, physical design and measurement.
- Custom Digital Circuit Design: Proficiency in custom digital circuit design and implementation in deep submicron technology (2 years).
- Programming Skills: Candidates with strong programming skills in commonly used languages (2 years).
- Communication and collaboration skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills are highly valued for effective collaboration within the team. A track record of successful participation in multi-disciplinary research and development projects is a plus.
