Our passion for discovery, and excitement for defining the future of tech, is what builds our strong culture around solving problems for clients and seeing the real world impact that you can make.
IBM's product and technology landscape includes Research, Software, and Infrastructure. Entering this domain positions you at the heart of IBM, where growth and innovation thrive.
IBM is looking for a candidate with experience in optics, materials science, and/or physics. The candidate must understand the fundamental principles of semiconductor processing and corresponding dimensional/property characterization. The hired candidate must also possess strong analytical and design-of-experiment knowledge, excellent written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to articulate difficult concepts to an audience with diverse technical backgrounds. The ideal candidate will have experience with the semiconductor device manufacturing process, patterning, and integration techniques. The ideal candidate will have experience engaging interdisciplinary teams to anticipate and develop high quality measurements in these domains. A track record of innovation in business processes, publication in industry of research and development work, and/or basic programming experience are additional valuable qualities, but not required.
Key Responsibilities Include:
- Materials Characterization: Drive the development of dimensional and materials characterization for next-generation semiconductor manufacturing, analysis of measurement performance, stability, and verification through reference metrology.
- Equipment Ownership: Acquire intimate knowledge of metrology equipment and take responsibility to ensure that tools are in control as monitored by statistical process control (SPC). This requires also close engagement and collaboration with equipment vendors and operations support.
- End-to-End Expertise: Develop and evaluate ideas, and define the path for best methodologies from concept through implementation. Generate technical documentation to share learning, improve training procedures, and propagate best practices.
- Collaboration and Integration: Collaborate effectively with cross-functional and multi-company teams that include engineers engaged in process integration, unit process, and metrology to create robust and innovative solutions.
- Emerging Technology Evaluation: Evaluate emerging technologies to discern their suitability for real-world product applications, conducting thorough assessments to inform decision-making.
