Your role and responsibilities

Your Role:

You are a Visual Designer passionate about translating functions and information into emotionally compelling and desirable visual experiences. You are experienced at communicating intent and meaning through visual experiences that create understanding and inspire action. You are a problem-solver with a strong work ethic and self-motivation who brings an ownership mindset and clear point of view to your work. 

This position will allow you to demonstrate strategic leadership, technical curiosity, and tenacity.  

 

Scope of responsibilities: 


Design


  • Interpreting research insights and building an understanding of the subject matter to design for user needs and market resonance.
  • Communicating through nuanced use of colour, tone, layout, composition, imagery, typography, interactions, and motion.

  • Translating information into visual forms that make information compelling, easier to understand, and actionable.

  • Designing visual experiences that unify and exemplify the convergence of user and market insights and IBM brand/design language.

  • Designing wireframes, interactive prototypes, specifications, interaction patterns, pathways of navigation, and other artefacts to deliver human-centred products that are conscious of user context and accessibility.

  • Cultivating a healthy, collaborative, and trusting team culture where you are comfortable giving and receiving feedback and asking for direction when needed.


Cross-functional collaboration and alignment


  • Collaborating with cross-disciplinary teams of product managers, engineers, and designers in an agile environment to define strategies and lead the creation of best-in-class design patterns.

  • Cultivating a healthy, collaborative, and trusting team culture where you are comfortable giving and receiving feedback and asking for direction when needed.

  • Work independently, with a strong sense of responsibility and commitment to teamwork.
  • Work in an agile environment with dynamic schedules and priorities.
  • Demonstrate a volunteer spirit with a ‘we succeed as a team’ attitude.
  • Use excellent verbal and written communication skills.


Leadership


  • Scoping workload and planning for timely delivery of design projects, working with multiple stakeholders to recognize opportunities to improve team processes and use of time and resources.

  • Defining and implementing strategies to accomplish the design vision and mission and communicating across the organization.

 

 

 

Required education
Associate's Degree/College Diploma

Required technical and professional expertise


  • Experience (8-10 years) building user interface mockups (low- and high-fidelity), patterns, mockups, storyboards, interactive prototypes, and development-ready specifications. 

  • A portfolio of previous work must be presented incorporating UI designs and/or sketches that demonstrate an understanding of design best practices across different platforms and devices. 

  • Experience with design tools (Figma, Sketch, InVision, Adobe Creative Cloud, etc.).  

  • Great sense of typography, iconography, colour theory, and visual composition and a strong, clean visual design sense. 

  • Understand modern design thinking and design trends (including responsiveness and accessibility). 

  • Understand different industries to gauge better how design issues and users can differ across them. 

  • Excellent listening, written, and verbal communication skills as well as storytelling and documentation skills. 

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
