Your core focus is to deliver high-quality, integrated solutions to the Tape Storage business through sustainable commitment to bring constant improvement and team collaboration.

In this role, you will work closely with other Development teams in select IBM sites, to support, maintain and operationally improve the IBM Tape Storage infrastructure.

You will have the opportunity to work with a dynamic and independent team of Researches, Development & Manufacturing engineers as well as key component suppliers to design, develop and manage advanced Magnetic Head technologies and Production level capabilities.

·       Introduce new designs for Magnetic Heads to support Company product roadmap.

·       Expand our testing capabilities to evaluate and qualify new Head Designs. 

·       Configure, Manage and allocate tools, testers and other engineering assets to establish product design and performance specifications.

·       Foster an environment that enables teams to do things

Your role and responsibilities


·       Lead & support key aspects of development of new Tape Head Technologies.

·       Expand existing testing capabilities at Tape Head and Tape Drive levels. 

·       Design, Implement and automate infrastructure solutions that support IBM Tape Storage products and infrastructure.

·       Become the mentor for the new engineer hires in the department. 

Required education
Master's Degree
Preferred education
Doctorate Degree
Required technical and professional expertise


·       20+ years of strong, deep knowledge of Physics, electronics, Mechanical engineering, Magnetics and Materials science.

·       10+ years of hands-on experience, very solid understanding of Tape Head Interface and electrical testing.

·       MS Degree in Physics or Electrical Engineering.

·       Excellent Communications skills.

·       Experience with Modeling, Matlab and Python software.

Preferred technical and professional experience


Experience with public cloud platforms, Strong Linux skills for managing services across platform, good knowledge in Cloud

Supplemental 1 employees may be eligible for up to 8 paid holidays, minimum of 56 hours paid sick time and the IBM Employee Stock Purchase Plan. IBM offers paid family medical leave and disability benefits to eligible employees where required by applicable law.

For part time roles, your compensation and benefits will be adjusted to reflect your hours. Benefits may be pro-rated for those who start working during the calendar year.
