Your role and responsibilities

The Revenue Splitting and Sharing Lead Analyst is the operational owner for AI CB-004 and AI CB-005. In this capacity, the Lead Analyst is responsible for developing and implementing policies and procedures related to revenue splitting and sharing. Continual updates, revalidations, and modifications to these instructions are expected, particularly when changes in US GAAP or IBM's business structure require adjustments. Although grounded in US GAAP, AI CB-004 and AI CB-005 are internal IBM processes and not mandatory under GAAP. It is imperative for the Lead Analyst to comprehend IBM's business requirements, the instructions' value to key decision-makers, and the need to balance control policies that minimize risk exposure while ensuring compliance.
As the owner of the revenue splitting and sharing process, the Lead Analyst manages day-to-day operations, ensuring clarity and well-documented requests. Consistency with the principles outlined in AI CB-004 and AI CB-005, as well as other relevant accounting instructions, practices, or procedures, is a key responsibility.
The Lead Analyst is accountable for establishing and maintaining adequate controls and practices for accounting instructions and processes. This includes accurately documenting approvals and effectively communicating with Opportunity Owners or Product Managers throughout the approval process. Additionally, the Analyst provides guidance and advice to various departments in accounting, finance, and operations, collaborating closely with colleagues from multiple organizations and acting as a trusted business advisor.
Effective communication skills are vital, as the Revenue Splitting and Sharing Lead frequently interacts with brand and finance executives. The role also requires a solid understanding of contracts and the ability to abstract critical information, as well as comprehension of cross-brand offerings and pricing exercises. Familiarity with FASB's ASC 606 and 280 is beneficial. The Lead Analyst must be well-versed in IBM's external reporting segment structure and understand how offerings within different externally reported segments align and function together in combined offerings and contracts.
Furthermore, the Revenue Splitting and Sharing Lead serves as the operational a team leader for the Cross-Brand Team. In this capacity, the Lead Analyst oversees daily operations, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial records. Responsibilities include assisting in managing a team of entry-level accountants, conducting journal reviews, performing balance sheet reconciliations, and providing guidance and support to team members. Creating a collaborative work environment and implementing best practices to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the accounting function are crucial aspects of the role. The Lead Analyst also mentors the team, assigns workloads, and monitors progress to ensure the timely completion of the activities.
