This position is responsible for the oversite of IBM’s chemical management programs in the Americas with the main focus being on support for the chemically intensive Almaden Research Center. The Almaden Research Center continues to lead IBM’s efforts in the development of new materials or new application of materials. Support of this location requires knowledge of chemical regulations and the ability to work in a seamless manner with scientists and management in the research community.
Responsibilities include the technical review and approval of chemical usage for complex mixtures of which many are hazardous substances and have appreciable toxicity potential. Another key responsibility of this role is the maintenance of the sites chemical inventory system of up to 10,000 unique chemical substances. In this role you will facilitate the responsible use of chemicals in a complex changing regulatory environment. This position also requires the individual to provide technical support to other remote IBM chemical using locations in the United States.
- Extensive Chemical Knowledge
- Chemical Regulations training such as Toxic Substance Control Act, Chemical Labelling and Hazard Classifications.
- Ability to utilize software tools such as SAP and Safety Data Sheet Management systems.
- Ability to Collaborate with Toxicologist to develop Safety Data Sheets
- Develop and implement chemical training programs.
- Manage and reduce chemical waste
- Chemical Import/Export
- Experience with Chemical Management Operations (EPA regulations)
- Chemical Distribution Operations.
- Chemical Management including chemical approvals.
