IBM Infrastructure is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Signal and Power Integrity Engineer to join our Z I/O hardware development team. In this role, you will drive innovation in IBM Z systems through advanced high-speed serial channel and power domain analysis. Your work will directly influence IBM’s product portfolio by supporting high-level design, pre-production analysis, lab validation, and model-to-hardware correlation.

Key Responsibilities
- Conduct strategic analysis of pre-production hardware using electromagnetic modeling, scripting, and frequency and transient simulation tools to optimize system performance.
- Perform lab-based verification and characterization of early hardware to ensure accurate model-to-hardware correlation utilizing state-of-the-art measurement equipment.
- Guide and test early hardware prototypes.
- Assess operating margin of high-speed serial links such as PCI Express and Ethernet.
- Collaborate across global teams to define and execute strategies aligned with aggressive product goals and timelines.
- Experience: Bachelor’s degree plus 10 years of experience in Signal and Power Integrity analysis, modeling and characterization.
- Technical Knowledge: Strong foundation in electrical engineering, transmission line theory, digital signal processing, RF design, and PCB/package materials and processes. Familiarity with vector network analyzers and oscilloscopes for high frequency tests. Understanding of how silicon and interconnect manufacturing tolerances influence link reliability.
- Tools Proficiency: Familiarity with industry-standard SI and PI tools such as:
- ANSYS HFSS, SI-Wave
- CST Studio Suite
- Cadence Sigrity tools
- Circuit simulators (HSPICE, ADS, Nexxim or alternative)
Skills: Excellent communication, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities. Ability to work independently and in team settings.
- Education: Master’s degree in electrical engineering or related field and 10 years of experience in Signal and Power Integrity roles. Successful implementation of high-speed serial link from concept to manufacturing.
- Technical Expertise:
- Deep understanding of large computer systems design, manufacturing, and hardware development processes, in particular PCB, packages, connectors, cables and optics.
- Programming experience in Python, MATLAB, and/or C++.
- Advanced proficiency in signal and power integrity simulation tools.
- Expertise in measurement instrumentation including VNAs, oscilloscopes, phase noise analyzers, spectrum analyzers, protocol analyzers, BERT and TDRs.
- Understanding of SERDES Tx and Rx equalization techniques.
