Join IBM's worldwide design organization for IT Financial Management Applications, where our mission is to empower users to do their best work through intuitive and visually engaging interfaces. As a Designer, you'll play a crucial role in modernizing the end-to-end user experience for IBM Apptio Planning.  

 

IBM Apptio Planning is a comprehensive financial planning solution designed to help organizations effectively manage and optimize their IT budgets. It enables finance and technology leaders to align spending with business priorities, improve forecasting accuracy, and drive cost transparency. With capabilities for scenario modeling, expense tracking, and cost allocation, Apptio Planning streamlines the planning process and empowers teams to make data-driven investment decisions.  

 

We’re seeking a designer with experience in user research, strategic thinking, and independent execution. In this role, you will drive the design vision and champion user-centric innovation across the product, ensuring every interaction delivers value and impact. 

 

Responsibilities:  

  • Own End-to-End Design Execution: Deliver UX flows, wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity designs that provide seamless and impactful user experiences. Monitor and evaluate the user experiences post-delivery.  

  • Collaborative Development: Work closely with design team members and developers to build, update, and modernize software product user interfaces using agile methodologies.  

  • Conduct User Research: Collaborate with UX Research team to plan and execute research initiatives to uncover insights, validate ideas, and inform design decisions at every stage of development such as usability testing, user interviews, survey creation, etc. 

  • Translate Insights into Designs: Convert actionable insights from the design research team into low and high-fidelity mock-ups, patterns, prototypes, and development-ready specifications.  

  • Feedback Loop: Share work-in-progress designs and actively engage in giving and receiving constructive critique.  

  • Advocate for Design Excellence: Promote user-centered design principles across teams, fostering a culture of innovation and empathy. 

  • Business Context: Understand business problems across our customer base to provide context for deliverables.

Experiência Profissional e Técnica Requerida

  • Years of Experience: 2-5 years in UX design or Product design 

  • Product Design Problem Solving: Ability to solve complex user problems through UX & UI design, creating mock-ups, prototypes, and documenting interaction patterns. 

  • Design Tools Proficiency: Demonstrated experience with design tools such as Figma, Sketch, Mural, Adobe Creative Cloud, etc. 

  • Design Principles: Knowledge of design principles including typography, layout, imagery, color theory, and creating efficiencies in visual design workflows. 

  • Collaborative Communicator: Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a history of success working in cross-functional teams. 

  • Independent and Proactive: Self-driven with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver exceptional results with minimal supervision. 

  • Portfolio Presentation: Must have a portfolio showcasing previous design work. 

 

Experiência Profissional e Técnica Preferencial

  • Design Best Practices: Understanding of modern design thinking and design best practices, including but not limited to responsiveness and accessibility for complex B2B applications. 

  • Attention to Detail: Appreciation for detail, ensuring every pixel and interaction is meticulously crafted.  

  • Research Expertise: Skilled in planning, conducting, and applying user research to inform and elevate design outcomes. 

  • Domain Knowledge: Experience with enterprise SaaS or Planning products is a plus. 

  • Strategic Thinker: Capable of crafting a design vision that aligns with both user and business needs, while maintaining a focus on long-term impact. 

  • Mentorship and Guidance: Provide mentorship to junior designers and contribute to the growth of a collaborative and innovative design culture.
