The IBM CIO Technology Platform Transformation team plays a crucial role in modernizing and optimizing IBM's technology infrastructure and platforms. The team aims to power AI-enabled experiences through AI-first technology platforms that enable and streamline existing processes, enhance security, and improve user experience by leveraging cutting-edge technologies such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, and cloud computing.

As a Computer Operator for the CIO Hybrid Cloud Z IT Operations team, you will maintain, support and help to enhance the mission-critical mainframe systems which support IBM’s key internal applications. You will have opportunities to learn about other technologies, such as Linux and OpenShift on Z, and the observability tools which drive our automation.
You will use tools such as the Z console, Tivoli Workload Scheduler (TWS), Jira and ServiceNow. You will receive extensive structured training and have the opportunity to certify on the solutions we support.
A typical day may include:
- Learning new skills, and enhancing existing ones through our training plan. Later in your career at IBM you, like all employees, will be required to complete at least 40 hours of training each year, earning badges, certifications and qualifications
- Working with experienced operators on one or more of the five teams in Operations, monitoring and controlling the operation of the mainframe hardware and software;
- Starting and stopping system tasks, monitoring the system consoles for unusual conditions, and working with the system programming and production control staff to ensure the health and normal operation of the systems;
- Making sure that batch workloads run to completion— without error or delay;
- Analyzing first-level problems for all systems, resolving and routing as appropriate, supporting the systems management processes specific to requirements;
- Attending team standups or cross-functional interactions
- Using IBM’s Slack channels to interact with other colleagues across the company on business, technical and social topics
The professional should demonstrate deep knowledge of IMS in z/OS mainframe environment, be able to solve complex problems and have living experience in installation, configuration, high availability, root cause analysis, performance tuning, and security & compliance activities.
- Good communication, teamwork, interest in learning new technologies.
- Experience in working with global teams, with people from several locations.
- Autonomy to work without supervision, targeting to achieve agreed-upon goals and with innovative mindset.
- Fluent in English, both written and spoken.
Availability to 24x7 support, according to business needs.
- Technical background (IT infrastructure and operational systems)
- Customer relationship skills
- Attending graduation in IT areas (computer science, information security, systems analysis, etc.) or graduation completed
- Availability to work on a flexible schedule, including night shift and weekends
