As a Fusion Network & Infrastructure Apprentice at IBM, you’ll work with a seasoned group of engineers and mentors in supporting our clients systems. You will have the opportunity to apply your hardware and firmware knowledge and experience using the latest tools and technologies to support servers, switches, storage or other semiconductor hardware; with focus on configure, maintain, monitor switches, routers, networks and firewalls.
Where applicable, you will be taught all day-to-day activities/responsibilities of end to end support of Fusion Infrastructure hardware. This work will be physical hands on in nature with some lifting and physical dexterity requirements. You will also learn and be responsible for a variety of lab safety procedures relevant to the specific raised floor environment, as well as learning and utilizing the specific hardware life cycle workload applications. This includes installing and upgrading firmware and hardware. To that end, you will be trained and expected to certify via testing in all specific responsibilities. Specific to the hardware life cycle, you will be expected to rack, stack, cable (power and network), new hardware, as well as un-rack and pack old hardware and cabling. Furthermore, this includes managing, maintaining and monitoring switches, routers, fusion networks and firewalls. This includes debugging failures to identify root cause to resolve the issue to bring the systems into a working state. In addition, you will be responsible for compliance, Hardware Compliance has responsibility for assuring that IBM’s products are designed to comply with in every country IBM does business with.
During the apprenticeship duration, you will be required to complete specific learning hours and on the job training that has been outlined to ensure you are developing the skills and competencies essential to the role. You will be able to learn and grow at your own pace, but we expect most apprentices will complete their learning within 12 months. Once you graduate and receive your certificate from our apprentice program, you will be eligible to apply to available full-time roles at IBM.
