In this role, you'll work in one of our IBM Consulting Client Innovation Centers (Delivery Centers), where we deliver deep technical and industry expertise to a wide range of public and private sector clients around the world. Our delivery centers offer our clients locally based skills and technical expertise to drive innovation and adoption of new technology.
Role: SAP TM Consultant (Mid-Level)
Responsibilities:
System Configuration and Customization: Configure and customize SAP Transportation Management (SAP TM) modules in alignment with client-specific logistics processes, including freight order management, transportation planning, and charge calculation. Collaborate with clients to understand business needs and implement tailored solutions.
Integration Support: Support and enhance integration between SAP TM and other SAP modules (e.g., SAP EWM, SAP S/4HANA, MM, SD) as well as external systems (carriers, freight forwarders) to ensure seamless end-to-end logistics execution.
Data Migration & Master Data Management: Assist in the migration of transportation-related data from legacy systems to SAP TM, ensuring data consistency and accuracy. Maintain and validate transportation master data such as carriers, locations, and transportation lanes.
Testing and Validation: Conduct system testing including unit testing, integration testing, and support user acceptance testing (UAT). Ensure that all transportation processes function correctly and meet defined business requirements.
Issue Resolution: Identify and troubleshoot issues in transportation execution, planning, or charge management processes. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve defects and improve system reliability.
Documentation: Prepare and maintain functional and technical documentation, including configuration documentation, process flows, test scripts, and user manuals, to support project delivery and ongoing system maintenance.
User Training and Support: Deliver training sessions and provide ongoing support to end-users and key stakeholders. Ensure user adoption and effective use of SAP TM functionalities.
Continuous Improvement: Analyze existing transportation processes and recommend enhancements using SAP TM capabilities. Contribute to optimization initiatives aimed at improving logistics efficiency and cost control.
Project Involvement: Actively contribute to all phases of SAP TM implementation and rollout projects, following defined methodologies and quality standards. Take ownership of deliverables within scope of expertise.
Professional Development: Stay updated on the latest SAP TM features, roadmap updates, and transportation/logistics trends to provide informed recommendations and maintain technical proficiency.
Team Collaboration: Work collaboratively with consultants, developers, and business stakeholders to deliver integrated transportation solutions that support broader supply chain objectives.
Transportation Management Expertise: Solid understanding of SAP TM functionalities, including freight order management, transportation planning and execution, charge calculation, and carrier selection. Experience with either embedded TM in S/4HANA or standalone SAP TM is valuable.
English Proficiency: Fluent English communication is essential, as most SAP documentation, project collaboration, and client communications are conducted in English.
Configuration and Customization:
Proficient in configuring SAP TM components to meet client-specific logistics needs. Familiarity with user exits, BADIs, enhancement spots, and condition-based settings for charges and planning.Data Management:
Hands-on experience or strong understanding of data migration techniques, including migration of locations, business partners, transportation lanes, and freight agreements. Ability to use tools like LSMW, LTMC, or custom programs.Testing and Quality Assurance:
Comfortable with creating and executing test plans for transportation processes, including planning, execution, and cost settlement. Experience participating in system integration testing (SIT) and user acceptance testing (UAT).Problem-Solving:
Ability to analyze functional and technical issues in SAP TM, whether related to planning constraints, integration errors (e.g., EWM or ERP), or charge calculation discrepancies, and propose effective solutions.Communication:
Strong ability to convey SAP TM-related concepts clearly to business users, developers, and stakeholders. Capable of writing documentation, conducting workshops, and leading training sessions.
Day-to-Day Operations:
Proficient in executing day-to-day SAP TM tasks such as managing freight units/orders, monitoring transportation cockpit, and tracking shipments. Understanding of end-to-end logistics workflows.Workflow Understanding:
Solid grasp of how transportation data flows across the supply chain (integration with SD, MM, EWM) and how SAP TM fits within the broader logistics ecosystem.Basic Troubleshooting:
Ability to recognize and resolve common process or transactional issues, or effectively escalate them to IT support or consultants.
Basic ABAP Knowledge:
Familiarity with ABAP debugging and enhancement points within TM is advantageous, particularly for customizing freight cost calculation logic, PPF actions, or integration scenarios.Cloud & Integration Awareness:
Basic understanding of SAP Business Technology Platform (BTP), SAP TM in S/4HANA Cloud, and integration protocols (IDocs, Web Services, CPI) is a plus.
Adaptability:
Willingness and ability to quickly learn and adapt to new SAP TM functionalities, including those introduced in newer S/4HANA releases.Teamwork:
