Your role and responsibilities

As a Data Engineer your responsibilities include - 

 • Effectively collaborate with team members and work independently to ensure customer satisfaction and success.

 • Collaborate effectively with Technical Business Analysts and Solution Designers to gather, analyse and validate business requirements, ensuring alignment with project goals and regulatory expectations.

 • Lead the SAS CEETL development efforts for the CCU project, including managing Bitbucket branches and overseeing code integration, review, and deployment workflows.

 • Design and implement robust SAS ETL solutions to support Basel III initiatives, ensuring data quality, regulatory compliance, and audit readiness.

 • Provide production release support by preparing and delivering release instructions for PIAT activities, IRB model runs, and RWA execution cycles.

 • Review and monitor team lab environments, ensuring consistent setup and availability during code merges, testing phases, and critical deployment windows.

 • Build and deploy automation utilities using Base/Advanced SAS and Python, significantly reducing manual intervention and accelerating the delivery of business-critical processes.

 • Engage in solution design discussions and drive alignment by reviewing technical design documents and seeking necessary endorsements from Solution Architects.

 • Ensure adherence to project timelines and quality standards by actively contributing to the planning, execution, and review phases of development cycles.

 • Demonstrate strong expertise in Credit Risk domain and regulatory frameworks, applying business knowledge to develop scalable and reliable solutions.

 • Support and guide development teams by conducting peer reviews, sharing best practices, and ensuring compliance with Westpac’s data engineering standards.

 • Maintain strong awareness of timelines and budgets to ensure timely project delivery.

We are currently recruiting Data Engineer-Data Platforms-Azure - Sydney - 18 Month fixed term contract, based in Sydney.
This will be a Full-Time FTH position with an estimated salary range of AUD 93,900 - 143,900. 

To ensure success in the role you will possess the following skills -
 • Possess 9+ years of technical expertise as a SAS Developer with strong knowledge of Credit Risk and the Banking domain.
 • Proficient in Base/Advanced SAS, SQL, RDBMS, and Python, with hands-on experience in automating and optimizing data processing workflows.
 • Experienced in developing SAS ETL jobs across BSE to SDL layers within the SRDE environment, with 3+ years successful deployments into production.
 • In-depth understanding and practical experience in SRDE architecture, including upstream and downstream data flows, transformation logic, and integration points.
 • Well-versed with Agile methodologies and tools such as Bitbucket for version control and Shell scripting for automation and process efficiency.
 • Actively contributed to initiatives like SARD code merge, EIM data lineage validation, and SRDE transformation analysis, supporting regulatory and business reporting needs.
• Proven ability to work collaboratively within SDLC, liaising effectively with development teams, QA, Solution Designers, and cross-functional stakeholders.
 • A dependable team player with strong communication skills, capable of engaging with all levels of technical and business teams to drive project success.
 • Demonstrated knowledge of SAS deployment activities and production support, contributing to seamless transitions from development to delivery.
 • Strong commitment to continuous improvement and quality delivery in the data engineering space within the Banking and Finance industry.
 • Coordinate with Solution Designers, Tech Leads and Business Analysts regularly to understand and adapt the new implementation processes that are being built to achieve Agile production releases in SRDE platform.
